Important: Test one powder at a time and do not allow samples to mix.
For each sample:
Place 3 small samples of each powder (about half the size of a dime) in separate wells of your Chemplate as shown below:
1. Describe your powder sample and write your observations in the chart.
2. Add 4 drops of water to the first sample of baking soda.
3. Mix using a clean toothpick. Record your observations in the chart.
4. Dip the litmus paper into this solution. Record your observations.
5. Add 4 drops of vinegar to the second sample of baking soda.
6. Mix using a clean toothpick. Record your observations in the chart.
7. Add 4 drops of iodine to the third sample of baking soda.
8. Mix using a clean toothpick. Record your observations in the chart.
9. Repeat steps one through eight for the other three powders.
